USPSA Production Nationals
Tulsa, OK 09/09/2007
Once again Production Nationals was held in one of my new favorite ranges, USSA in Tulsa, OK. I did not get to prepare much for this match due to a family emergency, so I went in feeling a little rusty, a little unprepared and a little unfocused. But despite that fact, I ended up with my highest Production National finish percentage ever at 96.01% and 4th overall with one of my match SP-01's. I also won the most stages I had ever won at Nationals with a total of 4. I knew going in that there would be some new faces in Production this year, with Max Michel jumping into the fray shooting a CZ 75 SP-01 prepared by Angus's CZ Custom Shop, I knew Ben Stoeger would make a strong appearance, and then you had the usual suspects: Dave Sevigny, my teammate Angus Hobdell, Bob Vogel, David Olhasso and more. The match ended up being one of the closest finishes in Production, with Dave Sevigny edging out Max for the win by less than a point. Personally it was one of my best performances, I hung in there and it was basically a 4 way tie going into the last day, with Dave, Max, Bob and myself all seperated by less than 10 points. I slipped in the mud on one stage, fell out of the shooting area, had to reenter and finish shooting 2 more targets, it cost me about 15 points. I had a dead primer on the next to last stage that really cost me, about 40 points and a possible stage win. I went into the last stage with a vengence, shooting everything on the move and grabbing the last stage win. All in all I was pleased, but the 2 little pieces of bad luck really hurt my standings.
The match itself was great, the only thing I had to gripe about was the ammo can stages and the judgement call it took to note that the can was above or below the belt. I am certain it skewed the results here and there, there were a few people on our squad that didn't get called with the can above the belt, and there was at least one shooter that got called with the can below their belt.
