IPSC Tulsa World Shoot Qualifier
Tulsa, OK 09/14/2007
This qualifier was the last qualifier match to decide who gets to go to Bali in 08 and represent the US. At this point in time we had a pretty good idea who was going, but it wasn't totally settled yet. I shot a different SP-01, one that was legal for IPSC Production. After the National event, the shooters were in a different mood, we were more loose and relaxed, and even though we took the match seriously, it was decidedly less serious than the main event. It ended up being a horse race between Bob Vogel and myself, with a surprising finish by Dave Olhasso, who was shooting a CZ 75 SP-01 from Angus's CZ Custom Shop. Dave usually shoots an XD in .40, but for the World Shoot he wanted an SP-01 to take advantage of 9mm and the capacity. It worked, he ended up in 3rd place with a 96% finish. Bob led for the entire match until the last stage which was a lateral stage with a middle start that offered the shooters a couple of different ways to shoot it. Bob went left to right, and shot a good time, with one miss on the max trap target. I quickly did some math, and realized that if I shot it about 2 seconds faster with good points I could grab the lead, and thats exactly what happened. I shot it like a madman, and went right to left, had good points and was about 2 seconds faster. At the end of the match it was still close, so Bob, Dave and I compared scoresheets and we thought I had just squeeked out the win. Apparently our math was off, I still had the win but at a larger margin than we thought. That brings the team to Bob, myself, Angus, and Dave Olhasso. The winner of '08 Nationals could jump on the team and knock Dave off, but the chances of that happening are slim since either the winner will not go or will already be a member of the team. Congratz team! Looking forward to dominating in Bali with y'all!
